WATCH: Massive Canadian Fire Causes Crane Collapse

Aug. 7, 2024
Vancouver Fire Rescue Services says it has extinguished the blaze that destroyed an apartment building and damaged nine nearby homes.

A massive fire at an apartment building under construction in Vancouver, Canada, is now under control.

The fire broke out late Tuesday in the six-story building and quickly spread, damaging nine nearby homes and causing a crane to collapse.

Vancouver Fire Rescue Services Assistant Fire Chief Keith Stewart told CBC Vancouver that a couple of firefighters suffered minor injuries.

Dramatic video showed the crane toppling, as a huge column of thick black smoke rose from the top of a building.

Stewart says the cause of the fire and the circumstances that led to the crane collapsing remain under investigation.
